Photography is not about 'the gear', but gear can make a difference...
As a pro photographer I hear a lot of conversations and discussion about cameras, lenses, software and camera accessories.
Sometimes these conversations are amongst groups of photographers, pro and non-pro and sometimes its with people who are clients, amateurs, casual commentators and friends.
There seems to be a misunderstanding that as a professional photographer the camera I use must have an almost mythic standard of capability, capacity and technical scope.
It doesn't, nor should it really
A pro photographer should be able to use just about any camera to produce an image that meets a set of criteria required for a specific circumstance; portraits, fashion, landscape, editorial, product, etc.
Many pro photographers will select and use a camera based on the expected uses, anticipated lifetime, durability, ease & familiarity of handling and whether or not it fits in to their existing range of current gear, e.g. lenses, filters, flashes, etc.
It's about functionality, familiarity as well as affordability for the most part, as well as the usual considerations like pricing, warranties, etc.
However that's not to say that we still don't have a preference or a aspirational camera system.
Without a doubt I know I prefer to work with my #Hasselblad system
The reasons are many, but it comes down to some basics, that I think are crucially important from my perspective;
image quality
colour handling
dynamic range
build quality
When I know that I can rely on my gear to produce the highest quality images for my clients then that's one less thing to be concerned about and lets me focus on the other aspects of a clients requirements
